Schoeman, Updike & Kaufman, LLP Welcomes New Partner in New York

(NEW YORK, August 7, 2009)— Schoeman, Updike & Kaufman, LLP is pleased to announce that Marvin A. Artis has joined the Firm as partner in its New York office.

Marvin A. Artis joins the firm's Corporate & Securities practice with 20 years of experience. His practice includes private equity, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, including the representation of buyers and sellers in a full range of transactions domestically and internationally. Mr. Artis has extensive experience in a broad range of industries, including healthcare, pharmaceutical, media, retail, financial services and publishing companies.

Mr. Artis also has significant international experience which includes several transactions in connection with privatizations, securities offerings and acquisitions on behalf of the government of South Africa, public and private-held South African corporations, and companies based in Malaysia, Italy and Germany.

Prior to joining Schoeman, Updike & Kaufman, LLP, Mr. Artis was a partner at Reed Smith LLP, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP and McDermott, Will & Emery. He began his legal career at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Mr. Artis received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his B.A., cum laude, from The University of Virginia.
