Norman L. Greene Writes Op-ed Published in the Portland Oregonian
July 22, 2010
Norman Greene wrote "The Case for Appointing Oregon's Attorney General" as guest columnist in an op-ed for the Portland Oregonian (Oregonlive.com) on July 22, 2010. The article, although published in Oregon, directly raises the critical national issue of how state attorneys general are selected and makes proposals for reform. Among other things, Mr. Greene suggests that these important public officials be appointed rather than elected using a well designed system of selection in order to improve quality and prevent over-politicization of the office. At present, 43 states elect their attorneys general, and 7 appoint them. The federal attorney general is appointed as well.
