Firm Wins Jury Defense Verdict for Client Reliant Pharmaceuticals

On March 2, 2009, a jury sitting in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois returned a defense verdict in favor of Reliant Pharmaceuticals, Inc., now a part of client GlaxoSmithKline. The plaintiff was a former sales employee of Reliant who claimed she was discharged from the company on account of her age in violation of the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act. The company’s position was that the plaintiff was discharged for off-label marketing and age was not a reason. After a six day trial, the jury found for Reliant.

The trial team consisted of partner Stephanie Scharf, counsel Sarah Marmor, associate Gayle Stein and assistant Kathy Petrusek.
